Starting from seeds

On Easter Sunday (April 4th), we went to plot #10 and prepared it ready for 2010. We first removed all of that dead debris, breaking it up as we went along so that it would go into the compost pile. This of course resulted in the first gardening injury of the season as well, when I somehow managed to stab my left palm and caused it to bleed. (Yes it was at that point that I put on the girlie flower printed gloves!)

Next Tera started turning over the dirt in the plot. This was the exciting part because we found at least 8 worms! We got a bit of the good stuff from the compost pile and added it to the plot and I was going around with the hoe making the soil nice and even! That was about all that could be done with the plot for the time being.

We headed over to HD to get a rain bucket and some starter seeds.
We picked up a "professional greenhouse" and 12 different seed packets for us to plant.
It was pretty cool! Add hot water to the greenhouse tray which is home to 72 peat pellets, separate each one at the top , add seeds, and cover back up. When all of the seeds were safely tucked into their peat pellet we moved the greenhouse inside to keep it out of direct sunlight and are now waiting for our first signs of growth. This is what we've planted in the greenhouse:
  • Sunflowers
  • Lavender
  • Cilantro
  • Rosemary
  • Onion (Evergreen Bunching)
  • Radish
  • Peppers
  • Yellow Squash
  • Cucumber
  • Tomato (Big Mama)
  • Tomato (Early Girl Hybrid)
  • Tomato (Supersweet 100 VF, Hybrid)
